Baptist Temple Statement of Faith

Baptist Temple Church Statement of Faith

The Word of God - We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God, the Mind of Christ, inerrant in the original writings, complete as the revelation of God's will for salvation and with supreme and final authority in all matters to which they speak.

The Trinity - We believe in one God, Creator and sustainer of all things, eternally divine existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit; we believe that these are equal in every distinct perfection and they execute explicit but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence and redemption.

God the Father - We believe in God the Father: an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of humanity, that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all those who come to Him through the Son, Jesus Christ.

God the Son - We believe that Jesus Christ is God's eternal and only Son, who has precisely the same nature, attributes and perfections as God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. We further believe that he is not only true God, but true man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. We also believe in His sinless life, His substitutionary atonement, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension into Heaven, His session at the right hand of God the Father, His priestly intercession on behalf of His people, and His personal and visible return from Heaven at the end of the Church Age.

God the Holy Spirit - We believe in God the Holy Spirit who came forth from the Father to convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. We believe that the Holy Spirit regenerates, indwells, sanctifies, teaches, and empowers for godly living and service, and comforts those who believe in Jesus Christ. We also believe that spiritual baptism occurs at conversion, resulting in union with Christ and placement into His body. We believe that leadership and service gifts are for today, but not the sign gifts.

Man - We believe that God originally created persons, male and female, in His own image and free from sin. We further believe that all people are sinners by nature and choice and are spiritually dead. We also believe that those who repent of sin and trust Jesus Christ as Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit, and that every human being is ultimately responsible to God alone in all matters of faith.

Satan - We believe in the existence of Satan, the adversary of God and His people. We further believe that he is the god of this present world but that Christians, properly armed through the power of the Holy Spirit, may successfully resist him by the blood of the Lamb.

Salvation - We believe in salvation by grace alone through faith in the lord Jesus Christ. We further believe that this salvation is based upon the sovereign grace of God, was purchased by Jesus Christ on the cross, and is received by faith, apart from any human merit, works or ritual. We further believe that salvation results in righteous living, good works and proper social concern.

The Believer's Eternal Security - We believe that at the moment of salvation, a believer is adopted as a true son of God, and that through the sealing ministry of God the Holy Spirit all believers are eternally secure; that once saved a person cannot become "unsaved".

The Church - We believe that the Church is the spiritual body of which Christ is the Head. We believe that the true Church is composed of all persons who have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. We believe that this body expresses itself in local assemblies whose members have been immersed upon a credible confession of faith and have associated themselves for worship, for instruction, for evangelism , for fellowship and for service. We believe the ordinances of the local church are the believer's baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper, and we believe that God has laid upon His Church the task of proclaiming to the lost world the need for repentance from sin, the acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior from sin, and the enthroning of Him as Lord. We recognize no spiritual distinction or social preference of persons from differing national origins, race or economic status; rather, we believe in the mutual submission of believers to each other in love.

Separation of Church and State - We believe that each local church is self-governing in function and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority. We further believe that the church and state have different functions and must be separate to fulfill their respective duties free from the dictation or patronage of the other. We also believe in the interdependence of like-minded local churches to accomplish together what one local church could not accomplish alone.

Christian Conduct - We believe that the supreme task of the believer is to glorify God in their life and that their conduct should be blameless before the world. We further believe that they should be faithful stewards of their possessions and they should seek to realize for themselves the full stature of maturity on Christ.

The Last Things - We believe in the bodily resurrection of the saved and lost, the eternal existence of all people by divine judgment, either in Heaven and rewards or in hell and punishment. We believe in the immanent return of Christ for the Rapture of the Saints.
